ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Staff Software Engineer with Machine Learning expertise on the Spots team, this role operates as a pivotal Individual Contributor, driving technical direction, solution design, and hands-on delivery within a cross-functional team, while aligning to me&u’s engineering principles and technical vision.
As part of me&u’s vision, Spots is a new consumer-facing app and web platform which aims to be the one place for saving, discovering, and sharing food and drink recommendations with friends. In this role, the successful candidate will work end to end on building Spots, leveraging ML and AI and me&u’s deep dataset to personalise users’ journeys in ways that feel delightful and helpful, but never intrusive. This includes personalised recommendations, smarter discovery, collaborative filtering systems, embedding-based search, and timely suggestions.
This role is expected to remain deep in the tools, delivering high-leverage production code and acting as a technical multiplier by enabling the team to do its best work through expertise and technical leadership.
The role collaborates closely with the Spots Engineering Manager, the Product Manager who is also me&u’s co-founder, the Product Designer, and the me&u-wide AI and ML Engineering Practice Lead to balance desirability, viability, and feasibility across product decisions.
