Senior Security Engineer

  • Western Sydney location

  • Hybrid working model

  • Permanent role

If you're looking for a standard security ops role where you're monitoring dashboards and closing tickets, this probably isn't it. If you're the person your team turns to when a high-priority incident hits, when the firewall architecture needs a rethink, or when the business needs someone who genuinely understands the intersection of IT and OT security...keep reading.

We're partnering with a large, well-established Australian utilities organisation that operates at serious scale and serves millions of customers every day, an essential service that operates 24/7 and serves millions of people every day. They're investing seriously in the maturity of their security operations capability, and this is a hands-on senior role at the heart of that effort.

You'll be working across network and perimeter security, incident response, threat analysis and continuous improvement - influencing security strategy, mentoring junior engineers and acting as a genuine technical authority within the team.

Key Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

You'll operate across both engineering and security operations, including:

  • Assessing and strengthening security controls across IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments

  • Optimising and maintaining firewalls, load balancers, web proxies, VPNs and vulnerability management platforms

  • Leading and coordinating responses to high-priority security incidents and representing Security Ops in incident management forums

  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to reduce organisational risk and improve cyber resilience

  • Configuring and enhancing network segmentation, web application firewalls and SASE/SSE/SD-WAN technologies

  • Conducting analysis of significant security events and working with threat hunting and cyber defence teams

  • Partnering with IT, OT, infrastructure and project teams to embed security requirements into solutions

  • Supporting compliance with ISO 27001 and other relevant regulatory frameworks

  • Providing Level 2 and Level 3 support for security incidents, problems and changes

  • Mentoring junior engineers and acting as an escalation point when needed

Requirements

This role isn't about ticking certification boxes. We're looking for someone who has           genuinely operated enterprise-grade security environments at scale and can speak confidently to the decisions they've made and why.

Ideally you'll bring hands-on experience with:

  • Network and perimeter security technologies at enterprise scale

  • Palo Alto and Check Point firewalls

  • VMware NSX Firewall and AVI Load Balancer

  • Secure Web Gateways, web proxy solutions and Azure WAF

  • SSE and SD-WAN / SASE technologies

  • Vulnerability management platforms

  • Incident response in complex enterprise environments

  • ISO 27001 security controls and governance frameworks

  • Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience in OT environments or critical infrastructure

  • Vendor certifications across Palo Alto, F5, VMware NSX, Netskope, Zscaler or Forcepoint

  • CISSP certification

  • Knowledge of the Australian Energy Sector Cyber Security Framework (AESCSF)

You'll likely come from a senior security engineering or security operations background within a large enterprise or utilities/critical infrastructure environment. You're technically credible, calm under pressure and equally comfortable leading an incident response as you are presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • General risk management knowledge.

  • Background inn risk and insurance

  • Experience working on large transformation or modernisation programs.
