Senior Data Modeller

About the Role

Our client, a major energy and infrastructure provider, is looking for a Senior Data Modeller to help shape enterprise-wide data modelling standards and support its information management, data analytics, and broader data-driven initiatives. You'll work closely with domain experts, engineers, and a modelling lead to translate business requirements into robust, well-governed data models.

 

The Project

This is a senior, hands-on modelling role supporting a data product ecosystem across the business. You'll be responsible for designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models, running modelling reviews with technical and business stakeholders, and ensuring modelling standards are followed consistently as the organisation scales its data capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with domain experts to translate business data requirements into conceptual, logical and physical data models.

  • Conduct modelling reviews with technical and business stakeholders.

  • Partner with engineers on the implementation of target databases, ensuring a proper handshake between modelling and engineering teams during handovers.

  • Work with the modelling lead to govern modelling standards and ensure process is followed.

  • Maintain documentation and metadata for data product models, ensuring accuracy, completeness and consistency.

  • Communicate and explain complex data concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Contribute to data profiling, data flow solutioning, and requirement verification across the data product lifecycle.

  • Contribute to data modelling and design standards, and help promote modelling knowledge across the organisation.

  • Peer review others' modelling work and provide feedback to keep it aligned with company standards.

  • Proactively and independently address business requirements, articulating issues, assumptions and challenges to reduce project delivery risk.

  • Work in a collaborative, agile environment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of proven hands-on data modelling experience, including 3NF and Dimensional modelling methods.

  • Experience with medallion architecture.

  • Experience with a major cloud-based RDBMS.

  • Experience with a professional data modelling tool.

  • Experience working within agile delivery, with a clear understanding of design-development cycles.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • A can-do attitude, with the ability to find a pragmatic way through challenging situations.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with commercial ERP software such as SAP.

  • Experience within a utilities or energy company
