ABOUT THE ROLE
There’s a big shift happening in data right now - moving from traditional warehousing into modern lakehouse platforms and real-time, scalable data ecosystems.
This role sits right in the middle of that shift.
We’re working on a permanent Data Engineer opportunity within a growing team building out a modern data platform using Microsoft technologies. This isn’t a BAU data role. It’s about designing and building data pipelines, shaping architecture, and playing a key role in a greenfield Fabric implementation.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll sit between the applications and reporting layers, responsible for:
-
Building and optimising data pipelines across multiple data sources
-
Designing and implementing lakehouse architecture (including medallion layers)
-
Working with Synapse today, with a transition into Microsoft Fabric
-
Integrating data across business systems and enabling downstream reporting
-
Applying best practice data engineering and optimisation techniques
-
Collaborating closely with business stakeholders and technical teams
The Environment
-
Modern Microsoft stack (Synapse → Fabric)
-
Greenfield Fabric pilot - real opportunity to shape the platform
-
Small, high-performing team with strong senior capability
-
Collaborative, business-facing culture with strong stakeholder engagement
What they’re looking for
-
Strong Data Engineering experience (SQL, data modelling, pipelines)
-
Experience with Synapse and/or Microsoft Fabric
-
Understanding of lakehouse and medallion architecture
-
Focus on best practices, optimisation and scalable design
-
Strong communication skills - stakeholder engagement is key
-
Certifications in Microsoft Data Engineering or Fabric (nice to have)
Why this role
-
This is a genuine opportunity to get in early on a Fabric implementation and help shape how the data platform is built.
You’ll be working on
-
Greenfield data platform development
-
Modern lakehouse architecture design
-
Integration of business-critical data systems
-
Future-focused capabilities including AI tooling
It’s a great opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond maintaining legacy systems and instead build something modern, scalable and impactful.
